Great new Greek spot in the Burg. My wife and I absolutely loved it!  Great food, great portions, and the staff is great. The owner came out and was very nice talking to us about the place right before they closed for the night. I know this will be a regular place for us going forward. Great addition to the area!

I'm pleased to announce that Williamsburg, Virginia has finally grown beyond the college town of fast food restaurants, burger joints, and pancake houses!

We have a plethora of cuisines. French, Indian, Nepalese, Vietnamese, a handful of Greek bistros, including 2 new ones this year. I reviewed Kephi a few months ago; barely a week ago, Spartan Gyros opened, so I have a chance to try/review SG.

Having a drive-thru in a Greek restaurant just feels wrong in so many ways! But that feature does not affect this review; I parked & walked inside.

At the counter I ordered the Traditional Gyro and a Greek Salad, very proud of myself for not going overboard in ordering. Then on the counter I saw a box of cookies, powdered. Looked good so I threw that in, also.

Easy wait. Perhaps 10 minutes later my order came up and I was on my way out the door.

At home, I lit into the Greek Salad first: Iceberg, Tomatoes, Yellow Onions, Kalamata Olives, Cukes, and Feta. And a small cup of homemade Greek Dressing. I say it's homemade because it's way too heavy on the Oregano. For the first time in my life, I'm having difficulty finishing a Greek Salad. Not because it was so big, but because it is so unimaginative. To begin with, Iceberg Lettuce has all the appeal of saltwater. Onions in a Greek Salad should be Red or Bermuda. Cukes should be thinly sliced. Feta should be much more abundant than what I'm seeing here. The salad weighs in at 14.4 ounces, which makes it a solidly medium Greek Salad. I finished it, but would not order it again. It's a shame when a Greek restaurant can't get the Greek Salad right.

Next, the Traditional Gyro. Thankfully, this is much better. A typical gyro, which is to say, wonderful. I could only eat half, because I was full of salad. I ate the other half of the Gyro today, and it was still wonderful.

The cookies, which I sampled late last night, were cake cookies, had bits of hazelnuts mixed in, and dusted with confectioner's sugar. Good, but not exciting. A bit on the dry side.

Spartan Gyros is clean, very reasonable prices, and friendly/helpful personnel. Parking is easy in the dedicated lot.

I'll be back. I'd love to try the Spartan Gyro, or perhaps the Gyro Bacon Melt. And they have a mouth-watering selection of desserts.

I've been seeing this place since it opened, but I only drive this way when I have an errand, so today was my first opportunity to stop. The decor is fairly spartan, but despite their industrial appearance, the seats are pretty comfortable. (Full disclosure- I carry my own padding.) I was disappointed that they didn't have dolmas on the menu, but we split an order of falafel. Darling Bride's first one was not entirely cooked, but I had no complaints. It does irritate me when an order of something has an odd number of things in it; we should have gotten 2.5 falafels (falafeli?) each, but my Bride is as gracious as she is pretty, so I got 3.
Her standard chicken gyro was "fine," she says. Nothing to write home about, but tasty enough. She made it a combo, but because she chose sweet potato fries as her side, it was a $4 up-charge instead of $3.
Being a Hobbit at heart, I'm a sucker for mushrooms, so I got a Chicken Philly Pita Gyro. The grilled chicken was tasty, the peppers an onions done without being overcooked and mushy. The cheese was there, too. The mushrooms were mushroomy enough. Somehow, the whole managed to be somewhat less than the sum of its parts. The surprise hit of the meal were the sweet potato fries, which were perfectly prepared. Sweet potato fries are easy to screw up, but these folks nailed it- crisp outside, soft inside, excellent flavour, and not too much salt.
Customer service and the speed with which we got our food were excellent! Honestly, I would have rated Spartan higher if two gyros, a plate of falafel, a drink and a fistful of fries hadn't cost $28.84. Some of that is the incredible meals tax levied by the rapacious junta that run the city of Williamsburg, but some of it is just that I'm used to getting more for that kind of money. I'm just cheap, I guess. They were quite busy the whole time we were here, both in the dining room and at the drive through, so there are plenty of folks who think it's reasonable.
I'll probably be back, though. They have a baklava cheesecake that my Bride decided not to spend calories on, but a slice of that and a salad sounds like a perfectly good lunch to me...

This is a low-key joint that offers friendly service and a retro-vibe. The gyro and Greek potatoes (peeled, baked with olive oil and lemon juice) were excellent. The hummus came with whole black olives and was seasoned just right!

I can't wait to come back for their lamb burgers!

I want to thank Spartans for a fantastic dinner last night. I ordered (at the drive-thru).  #1 traditional gyro meal and baklava for dessert and it was amazing! I'll definitely be back.  The food is fresh and made to order. Totally worth it.
